Merwe Metal Basins
Merwe’s metal bathroom basins are designed in Gold Coast Hinterland, Australia at the Merwe design studio. Furthermore, these basins are manufactured in Australia. Whilst active in the market, we realised that the market is looking for something new. Therefore, Merwe introduced a variety of materials in the basins-range.
Merwe supplies the metal basins in Bronze, Zinc and Brass.
As a result, you can get the same basin design in different materials! Merwe designed small basins for powder rooms. Elegant basins were designed for modern style bathrooms. Furthermore, bronze basins, brass basins and zinc basins are available for the person who loves the finer things in life. The bronze and zinc basins are ideal for design-sensitive who want to make a statement. Some of the Merwe basins have soft lines for a more feminine designed bathroom, and other stone basins have harder lines. The design options will be suitable for the person who loves contemporary stark lines, and for those who want a feminine bathroom.
Merwe Bronze basins are made from Silicon Bronze and will age and change over time. The patina of these metal basins will change differently depending on your water properties. Bronze is a natural material and the look of your Merwe Bronze basin will change over a very long time.
To prolong the ageing process, Merwe treated the Bronze with a layer of Natural Beeswax Polish. If you want to keep your Merwe metal basin with a gloss finish, follow the Care instructions on this page. Interior and exterior care can take place once yearly.
The silicon bronze that Merwe uses in the basins is lead-free. Silicon bronze is an alloy that is generally composed of 96% copper. The remainder of the materials can be a variety of other alloys such as manganese, tin, or zinc.
Zinc is a metal with a number of characteristics that make it an ideal choice for use in the bathroom. The zinc of these metal basins provides natural properties years of virtually maintenance-free use. In addition, zinc’s blue-grey and brown patina blends beautifully with most building materials and surroundings. Zinc is nonporous, anti-microbial and antibacterial. It has a smooth surface that is easy to clean and maintain.
Zinc is a living alloy. It will respond to its environment. Changes in the hue of the basin will happen naturally with use. A patina, or darkening, will occur over time. Keep in mind that while soaps, oils and salts may make a mark on the basin, because these metals are non-porous, it is virtually stain resistant. Mark that does appear, fade and blend over time. There are few materials that are as ecologically friendly as zinc. These metal basins is extremely energy efficient in its extraction and processing and is 100% recyclable without the loss of its unique physical and chemical properties, significantly reducing the need for new raw materials. In fact, over 30% of today’s supply of zinc comes from the recycling process.
Brass is a metallic alloy that is made of copper and zinc. Melted together to create the alloy known as brass. These brass metal basins are spinned, and thereafter finished to achieve the unique bathroom basin.

Merwe applied a clear lacquer to your basins. Brass that is not sealed with a coating is at the mercy of oxidation. The lacquer protects the brass and slows down the tarnishing process. This basin is ideal for people who want their brass basins to have the appearance of being vintage prize patina or tarnishing. Each basin becomes more unique over time.
